CLARE COOK DANCE THEATER is committed to creating and producing original dance theater projects that merge multiple art forms through artistic collaboration, fostering the aspirations and talent of young performers committed to pursuing a life in the arts and providing community based outreach opportunities to stimulate creativity and artistry in all people.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Clare Cook Dance Theater launched in New York City in November 2011 as a vehicle for choreographer, Clare Cook, to create and produce original, collaborative dance theater productions. As the company mission states, CCDT is a company of dancers, writers, composers, visual artists and designers committed to working across multiple disciplines including music, text, visual arts, film and video projection. Clare Cook’s varied performance experience in contemporary dance as well as her choreographic experience in musical theatre, plays, operas and films, inspires her desire for collaboration and creation of new forms of theater where dance is an integral storytelling component.
As of August 2015, CCDT finds a new creative home in Lafayette, Louisiana. We envision building a link between Acadiana and New York City, the dance capital of the world. We believe the professionalism and opportunity of the big city combined with the unique culture, strong talent and joyful spirit of South Louisiana is a dynamite combination for creativity. By offering workshops for local dancers with esteemed New York City artists, creating opportunities for New York City collaborators to develop original work with local professionals, and providing performance experiences for Louisiana dancers in Acadiana and in New York City, both communities will share and learn from one another. The more ways in which Acadiana residents can experience the arts at a professional level, the stronger and more diverse our entire community becomes, allowing us to be recognized on a national scale.
